hi all i am at the point of preairing the bumpers for sprayingand have come across a problem... i dont know how to remove the chrome bead that runs round the bumper, its also in bad condition. now any one know how it comes off? MY other option would be to just fill it in and make it look like it never had the chrome strip..not sure how well it would look though! please give ideas/ advice as i need to get cracking with the Bumper. just a bit stumped. cheers jim
Not 100% sure how its fixed it, may be clips or simply adhesive. Get a look at the back of the bumper for tell tale signs of clips. Thats alot to fill in and more than likely the filler would sink and crack after very little time, I wouldn't chance it. If you get the strip off you can buy replacement chrome strip in rolls quite cheaply, its self adhesive IIRC.
cheers des, pis was supposed to be in the 1st post.. lol this bumper has deffo been sprayed with the chrome in.. you can see the tell tale signs! ive tryed poking it out with a screw driver, but all that seems to do is cause more damage.
UPDATE!!!! i got it out.. i used a dremel to cut a slit into it, and poked it out with a screw driver! the end bits slide into the corners of the bumper.. its gonna be a nightmare to refit a new one :( oh well i can crach on now! *goes and contunues sanding*
Hi, So the plastic chrome strip is held in place by a "T" type slide the length of the bumper?? That will be a b1tch to refit, even with a new strip... Des. . . ;)
To slide the strip back in try lubricating it with liquid soap, it will then wash off when you wash the car or it rains. (It's frothy man !!! - as the advert used to say) Stephen.
