B230E K-Jet adjustment

MessageAuthor

Hi Folks, On our 1985 245 UK modelI do not have a CO meter nor any oxygen sensor on the exhaust pipe so I was wondering could one adjust the CO by adjusting the "mixture" Allen key with the engine idling to the setting with the smoothest idle and still get the adjustment correct. The car has no electronics in its purely mechanical fuel injection. Many thanks, Regards, Checkpoint Charlie

You need a gas analyser to set it correctly - smoothest idle won't always be correct CO althgough you are in with a good chance. Mike

Before making any adjustments I would make sure that everything servicewise regarding fuel and ignition is up to scratch, make sure the ign timing is correct using a strobe too before making any adjustments to the settings on the k-jet stuff. It is my understanding that they very rarely need messing with.

Also definitely worth checking for air leaks. Buckets and seals for injectors go hard with age and leak. Inlet manifold also is prone to leaks. Mike

Hi Guys, I have done the ignition, all new plugs, leads and timed with a strobe to be spot on, the vacuum advance/retard is working as is the mechanical advance retard. I have fitted a new manifold gasket plus new injection seals and verified with both propane and carb cleaner that I do not have any vacuum leaks. There are no garages I would trust around here to know where to stick a gas analyser. If I had one I would do it in a couple of minutes the adjustment is that easy. But without one I was wondering if the solution is to adjust to the smoothest running at idle speed, which was recommended on one K-Jet forum for Porsche cars. Regards, Jeremy
